Mac vs. PC

mac-pcAre you confused about whether to get a Mac or a PC?  This guide should help you out.

I am always asked this question: “Are you a Mac or a PC?”  I always answer, “I’m a PC.”  In fact, I’m writing this post with Windows Live Writer (note the emphasis on Windows).  However, Macs are fine too.  They’re shiny, and they’re…shiny.  That’s pretty much it.

Some people believe that Macs are better for photo editing.  I disagree.  PCs have some great photo editing software also, and believe it or not, Adobe Photoshop is also Vista-compatible.

To clear some issues up, I’ve devised a comparison chart for getting a Mac or a PC.

Mac PC
Price Macs can be anywhere from $599 to $2499 PCs come in any price possible – netbooks can start at around $300.
Operating System The current Mac OS is 10.5 (codenamed Leopard), though Snow Leopard is coming out soon. You will mostly find a PC with Vista Home Premium (although some netbooks run Home Basic).  Windows 7 is coming out in October.
Hardware Compatibility Some older hardware may not work with Mac OS X, but you should be fine. Same with Vista – although there are some compatibility issues, most newer hardware should work with the OS.
Software Compatibility Macs run pretty much everything, although they used to only focus on “visual” software. PCs are known to run most programs on the market.
Shininess Factor As I said before, Macs are shiny, and you’ll get attention walking around with a brand-new MacBook Pro. It really depends – if you’re looking for a “shiny” computer, look at Sony’s VAIO line of computers.

Really, it’s your choice.  I prefer Windows, and others prefer Macs.  See what’s best for you.  If you want to know what computer I have, I run Vista Home Premium on a Sony VAIO CR490.  I would highly recommend it, and the updated model can be found here.  Good luck!

One Response to Mac vs. PC

  1. The only reason there are no viruses on Mac’s is because only 4% of the population owns one. People whom write viruses will have a much bigger field day writing one for a PC. Macs aint better, they are just less common.
